One of the great things about networking, which is what I talked about in my last post, is that you inevitably build friendships with other vendors. In thinking about this in my own network, I automatically think of my friend Anita. Our friendship is a little different, in that we became friends before either of us owned our own businesses. We met at church. At the time, I was a freshman in college and Anita was a professor. I decided to pursue my degree in art and she was the scenic designer in the theater department. Needless to say, when I found out I could take a practicum class from Anita as an elective in which I would get to help build sets for plays I was delighted. Over the years I have been her student, I have nannied her children, and I have been her assistant both in the theater and in the cakery. I have watched her go from being a wife to a wife and a mother, and have seen her transition from life as a professor to owning a thriving Cakery. Her cakes are both beautiful and delicious, and I think that just about anyone who has had one would agree. I wanted to give you a glimpse of her beautiful work, which has graced many a wedding and delighted the last buds of many Alaskans.
